CELEBRATION ALLSTAR 5TET

Jazz traditionnel & brass band de La Nouvelle-Orléans
New Orleans masters on tour in France

The band

Celebration Allstar 5tet brings together four New Orleans musicians and Nantes-based drummer Jérôme Bossard around traditional jazz and the brass band sound of the Crescent City.

Two living legends — trombonist Craig Klein (Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Storyville Stompers, New Orleans Jazz Vipers, Harry Connick Jr.) and sousaphonist Kirk Joseph (Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Treme Brass Band) — share the stage with the city’s new generation: Doyle Cooper on trumpet and Connor Stewart on saxophone and clarinet.

No piano, no upright bass: the sousaphone carries the bottom end as in a street brass band, while the drums drive the parade groove. Trumpet, trombone and clarinet weave collective polyphony — music to dance to as much as to listen to, from trad standards to second line marches and brass band funk.

The project draws on Jérôme Bossard’s 30+ years of playing New Orleans music as founder of Zygos Brass Band, and on long-standing ties with these musicians built through tours and masterclasses.
